I'm a Runner...Maybe

So, I am training to run a 10K (6.2 miles) on Thanksgiving Day.  I almost cried and gave up when I saw the training schedule.  I went from not running AT ALL - EVER - to running 30 minutes the first day, 50 minutes the second day, etc.  I am on week 3 of training and I run five days a week for an average of 45-50 minutes per run.  Who knew I could do this?  Well, I'm not fast (although my speed is improving) and I don't have great form - but I can run without stopping.  I am pretty impressed with myself!  I told my dad we were runners now and he said you are not really a runner until you enjoy it.  So, I guess I am not really a runner yet...

Our longest training run so far was on Saturday for 60 minutes.

The runners:  Dawson (yes, he runs too), my mom and dad, me and Jason.  I am especially impressed with my parents - they are training as well and are both doing so well.  My dad is fast!  I have to work hard to keep up.

The girls - Lisa and I have been training together as much as our schedules permit.  I love running with her since we run at a similar pace.

I think Dawson is a natural runner.  He really makes it look easy.  He has been running with us and can run 4 miles without stopping.  That is about his breaking point - about 45 minutes is his max.  But, he got sooooo MAD on Saturday when we made him ride his scooter for the last 15 minutes.  He wants to run.  So, we are going to include him on as many of the weekday runs as possible so he can have more training to build up his endurance for the long runs.  He wants to run the 10K with us and I really think he can do it.  We'll see...

Grandpa and Dawson were twins running together - so cute!

I'm impressed! I need some motivation to run and a buddy to get me to do it.

I have always hated running, so I don't have any expectations of myself. (For example I'd never sign up for a 10K...) But now I really feel like a big wimp knowing Dawson can kick my trash. I have never in my entire life run 4 miles without stopping. I probably have never run 2 miles without stopping. The only reason I've run 1 without stopping is high school PE.

I'm very impressed with the whole family! Have fun!

SOOO cool. I cannot believe Dawson is running 4 miles! That's about all I can do. Lindsay gets a side ache walking down the street! :) Cool that this has become a family affair!

YOU look amazing, Jen. This running is only gonna make you look more amazing. Running always gets that baby weight off (for me, anyway!) and here you are running and running like crazy! You look great now, but after you race, you're gonna be a crazy hot momma! (and get those cool runner's legs!) Good for you.

Like I said on facebook, I am so totally out of shape! I've been working at my girls' charter school and haven't exercised in almost a month. My last day was Friday, so I will begin walking again this Monday and I can't wait. I hate not working out on a daily basis! I'm about 6 moths along, so I can't go crazy, but I'll do my treadmill and weights again!

Anyhow... Congrats on the amazing running and good luck on your 10K! You're gonna do great.

Dang girl...you are lookin' hot!!! Running suits you. It is true that you are not really a runner unless you like it. Therefore I was never a runner either. But I did get to the point where I was impressed with myself and excited about the thought of going. But then when I started I did not really love it. Does that count? Keep it up girl! And if I forget to tell you because I am in labor or something, then congrats on the 10K! Just don't run the wrong way like I did :)
