Out with the old...in with the new

We had our first family pet die this week - Taya's beloved Purple fish (yes - his name was purple). We had been prepping the kids for Dawson's fish to die for a couple months now - but every time he looks dead - he comes back to life. So, we were all surprised when Taya's fish was the one to bite the dust. The kids were pretty unaffected by it until I said we had to flush it down the toilet - they then blocked the stairs so I couldn't do it. After explaining that he would return to his home in the ocean, just like Nemo, Taya was on board. This explanation caused MANY more questions from Dawson, such as why does poop go to the ocean.....nice. Taya scooped purple fish into the toilet happily, Dawson proceeded to flush and cheer and then Taya's tears started....which lead to the promise of a new fish. So, Taya is a proud owner of her new fish, which she named Tuna Jacken (why???!!!)

The same thing happened to Lilly with our Beta Fish, Benji. She hardly noticed it alive, but flushing it produced massive amounts of tears. You guys are nicer than we are, we still haven't replaced him. Your kids are so cute!

great story, Jen. We had some fish, a blue and red one and we named them reddy and bluey. We gave one away and then the remaining one committed on me. Waited until we cleaned the tank and had fresh water up to the to and then it jumped out. I found it the next morning all dried up.
This was way before we had kids.
I love Dawson's question.

No matter what the name is, she sure does look happy!

That was the best story ever. I love that her fish was named purple! I could also totally picture them blocking the way from you and you totally cracking up at it. Thanks for the imagery, that is what good storytellers create.
Miss you tons!
